The Top Five Orlando Hotels

by Jim Rosenthal

The best place to stay in Orlando, considering you are going for the large number of theme parks is on International Drive. This is the primary location for all of the major theme parks. The following are the hotels that I rate as the top five hotels in Orlando, Florida.

Number one: Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando International Drive. This hotel has a shuttle that runs to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, my favorite theme park in Orlando. Our clients have rated this hotel as very clean with a friendly staff. It is also in prime location near all the theme parks. The hotel also offers a wide range of variety in their continental breakfast. Of all the Orlando Hotels this is my favorite.

Number two: Hampton Inn Orlando - Convention Center. If I can say anything about this place it is that the staff is wonderful. They also have very clean beds. The breakfast in the morning is perfect to start off a long day of theme park visitation. The property is well maintained and very clean. You can walk to International Drive in about 2 minutes time. This is my number two selection of Orlando Hotels.

Number three: Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club at Orlando. This hotel is a great place for a family, however that is typical for Orlando Hotels. The staff is excellent here. This hotel has a ton of entertainment options available including miniature golf, basketball, pools and child pools, hot tubs, pool tables, ping pong tables, a poolside bar. This is the number three of the Orlando Hotels.

Number four: Hilton Grand Vacations Club on International Drive. What a place for your whole family to enjoy. This hotel puts together entertainment for the kids. There is a bunch a family atmosphere as soon as you walk in, plus the property itself is beautiful. The hotel is located right by Sea World and close to Walt Disney World. There is a shuttle and trolley that will pick you up at the front gate and takes you where you want to go. I have also learned that they have excellent homemade ice cream in their recreation room. This is the number four rank out of all the Orlando Hotels.

Number five: Crowne Plaza Orlando Universal. This is a nice hotel. They have the most comfortable beds and they have a very friendly staff. They are not as kid friendly as our other picks. The hotel is clean, well maintained, has nice furniture including LCD television sets. The hotels location is a bummer because it is not as close to the theme parks as other Orlando Hotels. This is our number five pick.

Malindi - A Paradise of Sun and Sand in Kenyan Coast

by Andrew Muigai

Malindi town, located 120km north of Mombasa is one of the most popular tourist destinations along the East African coastline. Malindi has a 155km coastline that boasts idyllic beaches offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. The extensive beaches are a paradise of sun and sand and are fringed with towering palm trees that sway tirelessly as if to portray the unending fun that abounds in the Kenyan coastal town.

Malindi town was founded by Arab traders in the 13th Century as their main trade centre along the Indian Ocean. At that time the economy depended on fishing, hunting, agriculture and salt collection. By 1498 when Vasco da Gama reached Malindi, the town had already become both a kingdom and a wealthy town. The then inhabitants of the town comprised Arabs - the ruling class, Africans and a few Indians. And because of the region’s monsoon winds, Malindi became an important port in East Africa as it formed the base from which places all over the Indian Ocean could be reached.

The Portuguese finished the construction of Fort Jesus in Mombasa in 1593. From that time, Mombasa overtook Malindi in splendor and importance. Several traditional buildings of that era still exist in Malindi and are among the town’s tourist attractions. These include a mosque and a palace constructed right on the beach.

Tourist attractions in Malindi mainly relate to the tropical water and beaches and the Watamu and Malindi Marine Park. These national parks were established in 1968 and are the first of their kind in Africa; offering an ideal day trip for divers and snorkellers alike. The coral gardens present in the Watamu and Marine parks abound in multi-coloured fishes that can be seen ducking in and out of the coral kingdoms.

The renowned Gede ruins, consisting of the remains of a small town that was abandoned in the 17th Century, are also a major tourist attraction. The ruins were declared a historic monument in 1927 and much excavation work was carried revealing the ancient town, pillar tombs, a palace and a great mosque.

Northwest of Malindi is the Marafa Depression, locally known as Nyari and popularly known as Hell’s Kitchen. Nyari is an extensive series of sandstone gorges and sheer gullies- a unique landscape that has become part of local folklore.

Malindi town is renown as a haven for lovers of gourmet dishes with its restaurants, hotels, coffeehouses and other eating places offering a wide range of cuisines ranging from local flavors to international cuisines. The area residents mainly comprise of the local Swahili people and a number of Italians investors who have transformed the town into a reputable tourist destination. Their friendliness and welcoming attitude among others is a charm that cannot be rivaled in any other tourist destination the world over. More than half of the local population thrive directly or indirectly from tourism.

The East African coast is generally hot and humid throughout the year. The long rains around Malindi are experienced from April to July and the short rains from October to November. The mean daily temperature is around 22 degrees Celsius low and 30.5 degrees Celsius high, and the best months to visit Malindi are December to April.

Getting to Malindi is quite easy both by road and air. Although some visitors fly directly to Malindi, the main gateway to the north coast is Mombasa. Malindi airport has daily scheduled flights to Mombasa, Nairobi and Lamu and it also serves Private Charters. There are regular buses and matatus along the North coast and most hotels and resorts in this area can arrange vehicle transfers.

Budget Hotels In Cabo San Lucas

by Jennifer King

You will save your hard earned money on your Cabo San Lucas vacation with a cheap Los Cabos hotel. Although these hotels are inexpensive to spend your vacation in they won’t let you down with their service. They are some of the highest rated Los Cabos accommodation according to Trip Advisor. These hotels in Los Cabos not only save your money on your accommodation, but they save your dollars on your food bills as well.

These Cabo San Lucas places to stay are right in the middle of downtown Cabo San Lucas so you’re a couple of minutes from the Cabo San Lucas nightlife. It’s easy to go for a night out at one of the preferred nightspots in Cabo San Lucas, and be just a few minutes walk from your hotel. Without relying on fares for cabs you get more of your money to fritter away on the stuff you enjoy the most.

A inexpensive Cabo San Lucas hotel offers you the comfort of not continually being approached by the timeshare people. They populate the expensive beach resorts, and for most of the time, ruin many family’s vacations.

A cheap Cabo hotel is the Siesta Suites, and this hotel gets a ton of good reviews. At $75 a night it is value for money, and a week at this hotel will cost you less than one night at a Cabo San Lucas resort. You won’t get the luxury of a Cabo San Lucas resort, so if that’s what you what you need the Siesta Suites isn’t going to be a very accommodating for you. If you just want somewhere to sleep, receptive hotel staff and your food then this Cabo San Lucas hotel will be on your shortlist

Los Milagros is rated the number 1 place to stay in Cabo at Trip Advisor at the moment, and it is one of the cheapest you can spend your vacation in. At around $85 a night it’s value for your money. You’re welcomed by friendly hotel staff, which is a quality a lot of people find lacking at the luxury beach resorts. The manageress, Sandra, gets an incredible amount of good feedback from visitors that have stayed at the Los Milagros because she will go out of her way to help her clientele. If you need information on a place to eat, and nightspots to visit she is more than pleased to help you. Sandra is possibly one of the reasons this Los Cabos place to stay is rated number 1.

If you want to spend your vacation at a bigger hotel, then the Hotel Mar De Cortez is probably what you need. This Cabo San Lucas hotel is much larger than the other hotels already mentioned above. You have a greater choice of rooms with 90 of them to select from. If you enjoy meeting more people during your vacations you will feel in your element with this Los Cabos hotel. The pool area is larger as well which is more satisfying if you like to laze by the pool during the day. Again, you’re in the center of downtown Cabo San Lucas, and you’re a stone’s throw away from the Cabo hotspots. If you’re looking forward to a night at Cabo Wabo you won’t have far to stagger back to your hotel.

Another Los Cabos hotel that is a bargain, and gets lots of excellent reviews is The Bungalows Hotel. This Cabo San Lucas place to stay is a bit pricier than your usual cheap hotel, but at roughly $135 a night it is not the same price of a larger hotel or resort. This Cabo hotel is also the number two ranked Cabo San Lucas place to stay according to Trip Advisor. It almost always gets excellent reviews, and the staff are said to be some of the receptive in Los Cabos.

The Museum Capital of Belgium

by Thomas Burtonelli

Bruges, Belgium is a cultured city off the beaten path. At least it was until a hilarious movie came out. In Bruges changed all that. While visitors will have a hard time finding movie stars, the city offers a bevy of cultural locations that are worth visiting.

Every city, even a drab one, has an immediate obvious theme. Bruges screams history in the form of museums. Frankly, they are plentiful. The city is quaint enough to be worth visiting anyway with an old historic town and canals, but history buffs will really love it.

Love museums? A small sampling of the best in Bruges includes the Groeninge, Memling, Archeological, Gruuthuse and Folklore Museums as well as the Renaissance Hall. There are many more niche oriented museums as well. You just have to walk five feet to find new ones.

The days of cobblers are largely past, but not at the Folklore Museum. Home to a 17th century almshouse still owned by the local cobblers association, you can view cobbler studios, Flemish homes and other items at this museum. It is like looking back through time.

Mention museums and many people immediately think of art. The Groeninge in Bruges offers a unique twist. It is a large gallery of excellent art, but primarily from local artists. Check out Memling, Eyck, David and van der Goes to mention only a few artists.

Like a little kick in your adult beverage? How about spicy beer? If so, the place to go is the Gruuthuse Museum. It was a family owned spice beer brewery that was legendary in the medieval period. It will give you an entirely new perspective on the idea of BYOB.

Art is an odd world. Hans Memling is considered a great Flemish painter and has his own museum, the Memling. The odd thing? He was German. Still, his works are amazing and definitely worth a viewing, which makes the museum carrying his name a must see.

Reading about history is nice and all, but most of us prefer a more realistic experience. If 16th century Belgium interests you, the Renaissance Hall is the place to be. You’ll be transported into the daily life of this fascinating period from the mundane to the spectacular.

Contrasting old and new is what the Archeological Museum is all about. You can view Bruges through time and then walk out the door to see the modern version of the city. It will give you an odd sense of perspective of time running through the hour glass.

Bruges has much to offer in addition to the museums. It is one of those cities you enjoy by just being there. The people are friendly and the city has much to offer in casual comfort and atmosphere. A walk around the canals is certainly an enjoyable time.
